On Sunday, March 25, Queen of Peace Church in North Arlington observed the International
Day of the Unborn with a Noon mass celebrated by Bishop Charles McDonnell, New
Jersey State Knights of Columbus Chaplain. An estimated four hundred fifty
(450) people were in attendance at the Church and one hundred fifty five
(155) were in the procession. The Grand Knight for Council 3428 Robert Tarantula
held up a baby at the end of the mass and introduced the mother who had chosen
life over abortion. After the mass, there was an Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
and a procession from Queen of Peace Church, north on Ridge Road to Holy Cross
Cemetery. During the procession, the congregation recited the Rosary and 48 candles
were carried representing the estimated 48 million babies aborted since the United
States Supreme Court ruled to legalize abortion through the horrendous Roe vs.
Wade decision.
Bishop McDonnell led the Benediction at the Mausoleum Chapel, followed by a
re-dedication of Rachael’s Monument (Monument to the Unborn) At the end
of the rededication those carrying the candles were asked to place at the foot
of the monument. The
Knights of Columbus Fourth Color Corps from several Assemblies within the First
New Jersey District were the honorguard for the Bishop and the Blessed Sacrament
at the mass, procession and rededication.
